The layer of society, which calls itself ‘civil society’, consists of engineers, doctors, professors, lawyers, medium size businessmen, Rights activists, NGOtic persons etc. It can easily be distinguished as middle class – petit bourgeoisie. If they are the ‘civil society’, we the working masses, trade unionists, student leaders and leftists are happy to be called ‘uncivil society’, but let us remind them that this uncivil society is in majority in the world. Banana Republics have mushroomed in our times. Let it be the East or the West; let it be a ‘democratic’ rule or an autocratic one, they are found every where developing with rapid speed. Even those states of past which were considered ‘welfare states’ are now rolling back their character and are fast lining up in queue for becoming banana republics. But most of these banana Republics exist in third world, chiefly the ex-colonial countries. Thus, it poses a great question before us that how a banana republic is made. Obituary of the Free Market Doctrine

 It has emerged that famous doctrine of capitalism in the period of 80s – the ‘free market economy’ – is “sadly” no more alive in the practice, except text books. The creation of Jeffery Friday and cheerfully presented by Chicago School of Economics, the mantra of ‘free market’ died a rather shameful death in the credit crunch started from U.S some two and half years back. Washington Boys, since then have tamed a form of economic model much near to the state capitalism. But nobody has yet confessed that U.S,UKor other world economic powers have switched to the state capitalism in form of tight regulations, bailout packages and financial injections to boost the market, which was believed to be self-regulatory. In the wake of financial quake, this ‘self-regulatory’, ‘self-corrective’ metaphysical ‘free market’ didn’t work. It simply collapsed. Simply, without any further bogus slogans. (more…)
